Rather than rely on extreme adjustments in photoshop I make sure to use the correct exposure in camera and the only adjustments needed would be a suitable crop and editing to enhance the image rather than correct the lighting. The main thing I focus on when editing is sharpening and clarity to bring out all the fur texture and details.
