Congratulations to the winners!
Very well done. If possible, increasing the shutter speed would really freeze your subject to be able to compose this shot slightly better. It would be easier, then, to see the strain on his face in the last pose and it wouldn't be blurred with the action, just my opinion. Excellent thought into this photo and well composed otherwise!
Since it was impossible not to show such a busy environment, I would try to open the frame much more and position the athlete in a more attractive place when finally jumping the pole. Maybe you would also had catch two or three more shots of the previous approach.
Thanks for your comments.
The shutter speed for this compose war 1:1.600s and iso 640, but it would be even better with shorter shutter speed as you mentioned Brad. But on my computer the picture looks sharper than the picture on Fstoppers. Perhaps som more lightening and a little more contrast I the face also could help.
I agree with Mario that perhaps some more shots of the approach would be better to enlighten the motion better. There will be a new contest this year, so I have to take som more shots then to improve.
The lack of sharpness could be due to some sort of compression too. Most sites have some form of it. FB and IG are absolutely terrible for compression. It's nice that Twitter has changed their compression as well to allow people to see photos much close to how they were intended. Love your photo still Kjell. I also like the idea of opening the frame as well!
