+ nice colors
+ pleasent editing
- it's visually unbalanced, there is a lot visual "weight" on the left and very little on the right
- what IS your main subject?
A vertical crop of the left side would emphasize the good things
Thanks for critiquing, but I feel like these suggestions are a little strange.
What is your main subject?
- If you look at this shot and can’t pick out the subject right off the bat, I am beside myself. The low contrast and lack of subject matter in the sky and water create negative space and very effectively draw your attention to the mountains and then the secondary subject of the island to the right. They’re also the only darker tones in the frame with detail and contrast. Additionally, the clouds and waves have subtle lines leading you to the mountains. These are all reasons this is a strange question to me.
It’s unbalanced.
- if you’re only considering tone to carry weight yes, but again, the low contrast in the clouds and water create negative space which also carries weight. If you put a dot on the lower left third of a white piece of paper, it would be drawing your eye to the dot, but it wouldn’t be
unbalanced.
A vertical crop of the left side of the frame would just be a split screen of sky on top, water on the bottom and the mountain dividing it. This would definitely throw the balance off because there would be even more weight on the left. The darker tones are greater on the left but there wouldn’t be any negative space or solitary island on the right to balance it out.
Thanks, your argumentation makes sense.
