My first attempt at the popular macro 'Glowing Mushrooms' following an article on Fstoppers, in an attempt to do something a bit different I found this composition on a moss covered log with a solitary mushroom that would be my subject with three similar mushrooms in the background which are blurred to the point where you can only just discern what they are.

Beautiful light and composition ! Love it.

Thank you Ronan

Jonathon, fantastic image! The light is ethereal and the bokeh perfectly guides the viewers eye to the focal point of the image.

Ignore the people who've given you poor ratings. There's some questionable integrity at play.....

Thank you for the kind words Gary, I'm a long time CTC viewer so I know that images get voted down more so compared to when they are just in a portfolio on the main Fstoppers site :)

I'm rating this as a 5 so that Patrick will get pissed and have to review it, I remember him saying he hates the lit mushroom photography.

Thanks Devon, yes I remember that CTC too, I didn't even hesitate when submitting :)

If the Fstoppers crew were to critique it, it will surely earn one or more of their three standard responses for images that don't fit their definition of "mainstream" commercial photography. e.g.

1). Where would this image be commercially viable?
2). Would you put this image in your portfolio!?!
3). I think that there's some "funny business" going on with post processing in this image.........

The only mystery is if the critique will earn one or the coveted, triumvirate?

Personally I'm really happy with it as it was my first attempt, I think that Daniel Laan (who's article I followed) does it better. At the risk of sounding big headed (I'm aiming for matter of fact)
1) I have sold prints of this (by request - I don't actively sell prints at the moment) if that counts.
2) It was shortlisted in the Macro category of the British Photography Awards, so for me, yes.
3) Aside from the colour grade, yes there is a little funny business, but I'll see whether they can figure it out...

So beautiful

Thanks Yiannis
