Title: Horizontal Hover
Location: Pagham Harbour RSPB Reserve, UK

After several disappointing hours trying to photograph birds on what had turned into an overcast day, I was trudging back to my car through a churchyard when the clouds thinned momentarily and I noticed this Hoverfly flitting between flowers close to the ground. I managed this single shot before losing the light again and it turned out to be my best image for the whole day! I'm actually surprised the camera focused as I was aiming straight down, and it must have been pretty close to the minimum focusing distance for the Canon100-400mm lens.
