Shiprock had been on my bucket list for quite a while. The isolated ancient volcanic structure with the “veins” emanating from the central pinnacle is otherworldly.
On a work trip to the area I made it a point to drive the 2 hour round-trip journey at both sunrise and sunset. As an avid drone photographer i was losing myself trying to find exactly the right composition while the light was changing by the minute.
During the sunrise trip, I had just finished getting some video footage and was looking for just the right angle to capture the sunrise before bringing it back to me. Reversing the drone backwards and taking multiple shots i finally got the angle i was looking for with just the right side illumination.
