Waiting for the bulls
I have been to Spain several times on my travels. I wanted to see a bullfight once in my life. This one time was enough for the rest of my life.
But what was more interesting for me was to experience what goes on in the streets of Pamplona in the morning. I rented a spot on a balcony to take my photos from there. Because every morning at the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, the fighting bulls are driven through the crowd to the arena from exactly where I was standing. Locals and tourists run with the bulls. Some are armed with rolled-up newspapers. After just over three minutes it is all over and the injured are counted. How the day will end for the bulls is already clear.
I took this picture before the bulls were released. It was the starting point where the crowd gathered to run in front of the bulls. It was this tightly packed crowd that fascinated me. It was the waiting for the bulls.
Among the bloody and dangerous tourist attractions, the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona in northern Spain is one of the most famous: from July 6th to 14th, there is a lot of partying and even more drinking - and in the morning, people run with the bulls. Then the bulls, which will be killed by matadors in the evening, have to run across the slippery pavement to the arena.
