Look closely and you will see nature at work. Ants spread lily seeds through a process called myrmecochory. Ants are attracted to the fleshy, nutritious elaiosomes that are attached to lily seeds. They carry the seeds back to their nests, eat the elaiosomes, and then drop the seeds in their trash piles. The seeds are then protected from predators and buried in nourishing soil, where they can germinate and grow.
