Curious swamp puppy, shot with an on-camera flash (speedlight). Alligators have a mirror-like layer at the back of their eyes (the tapetum lucidum) that helps them see at night by bouncing light back through the eye, so the camera flash reflects straight back at the lens and picks up a reddish-orange tint from the eye’s tissue and blood vessels. If I remeber right this is shot with 100-400mm zoom on a full frame camera and speedlight..
