Who It’s For:
This is a professional grade standard zoom lens from Nikon and is one of the three lenses almost any professional photographer will have (along with the 17-35mm and 70-200mm) It’s expensive, but it’s built for heavy use and is optically brilliant.
What We Like:
Silent Wave Motor: This lens is incredibly quiet while focusing unlike some of the older D lenses
5 ED Elements: 5 Extra-Low Dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations
Solid Build Quality: All metal build except for the rubber bits.
New VR: The VR in this camera is supurb, Nikon says it allows you to shoot three stops slower handheld and I believe it. It’s amazing at all focal lengths.
Lack Of Distortion: The latest version of this lens has an incredible lack of distortion
What We Don't:
Price: This new version is $500 more expensive than the previous model making this lens sell for around $2,500 new. Ouch. But if you need it, it’s an amazing lens.
Weight: If you get this lens you might want to spend a few more days a week at the gym because this will give you a workout. It’s a big, heavy lens but that’s to be expected for this focal length.
