Who It’s For:
This is a professional grade, super wide angle lens that is used for very special purposes. This is not a “Get it all in” lens, this is a shove your viewers nose in it lens that 90% of the time isn’t necessary, but when it is, this lens excels at it. This lens is significantly better than the earlier model the EF 14mm f/2.8L USM.
What We Like:
USM Autofocus: The Autofocus on this camera is very fast and very quiet.
Weight: At 1.2lbs this lens is very light
Distortion: for being a 14mm lens, there is very little distortion. Straight lines stay straight.
Sharpness: Even wide open this lens is tack sharp.
What We Don’t:
No Filters: This lens doesn’t have filter threads and you cannot put regular filters over the front elements.
Light Fall Off: At f/2.8 there’s a lot of light fall off. You have to stop down to f/8 to be rid of it. It’s not as bad as its predecessor, but it’s still there.
