Who It’s For:
The Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM is a fantastically sharp lens that is for the photographer who needs 300mm, but doesn’t need the f/2.8 aperture. So, if you shoot sports or headshots and don’t need the extra low light abilities of the f/2.8, this is the lens for you. It’s also quite a lot cheaper.
What We Like:
Price: This lens is much, much cheaper than its big brother, so if you’re on a budget, this is a comparative bargin.
Sharp: This lens is incredibly sharp.
Distortion: This lens has very little distortion at f/4, and it’s completely gone by f/8.
Autofocus: The AF on this camera is very quick and very quiet.
IS: This really improves your ability to handhold this lens.
What We Don’t:
Speed: It’s a f/4, so it’s not really a problem because there is an f/2.8 model, but at f/4, lowlight can be something of an issue for moving subjects.
