Who It’s For:
This lens is for the photographer who doesn’t need the speed of the 70-200mm f/2.8, but instead needs the extra range that this lens provides.
What We Like:
Optics: This lens is optically amazing out to 300mm, with some softness at the widest aperture at 400mm. But, when stopped down, this lens is incredibly sharp at all apertures.
VR: Nikon Claims 3 Stops and I’d have to agree. This lens is actually hand holdable for non moving subjects.
What We Don’t:
AF Speed: Slow. Granted it’s a slow lens, but AF can be a bit of a hinderance especially if you’re trying to shoot quickly moving subjects.
Tripod Collar: Just gets in the way.
