Who It's For:
The D3200 is Nikon’s newest entry level HD DSLR that was announced in April of 2012. This is the perfect camera for people who have never had a DSLR and want to make the leap from point and shoot, or for the professional photographer who needs an inexpensive backup camera.
What We Like:
Price: At $699 this camera, bundled with the great 18-55mm VR lens is a great bargain. There is obviously quite a lot more money you could spend on lenses and accessories, but to start out with, this is all you'll need.
Resolution: The D3200 has a whopping 24MP which is incredible for an entry level camera. This will allow for a great deal of cropping while still maintaining adequate resolution for printing.
Video Quality: The D3200 shoots full 1080p video in a number of different frame rates. This is great for people who don't want to have to carry around both a video camera and a still camera.
What We Don't
No Depth Of Field Preview Button: This is a littly puzzling despite the D3200’s entry level status
Resolution: 24MP is going to create some really rather large files that someone unaccustomed to dealing with large amounts of big files might struggle with. If you take a lot of pictures, be prepared to invest in an external hard drive or two.
