I'm really new to photography and haven't decided which style I like the most. I took these photos of skateboarders this week and would love some feedback on how they rate with sports photographers.
Technically they are pretty good photos, the lighting is good, the skater is frozen in action in most. The 4th and 5th shots are a touch blurry but they show the skater is moving so it's not the worst thing.
The 2nd and 3rd shots are great examples of lining up the skater with a clean back, but the rest are a little cluttered.
The first 3 shots it's pretty much impossible to see where they are going, You should try and show the take off and landing, For example in the 3rd shot I can't tell if the skater is jumping off a 2 foot drop or a 20 foot drop.
Lastly your timing is off on pretty much every shot. The 3rd shot is cool, it shows him launching into the ollie. You could also wait till he levels out, but I actually like seeing something a bit different. But when shooting flip tricks you want to get the photo right as they catch it, for example with a kickflip you want to get it right as their back foot catches the board and the front foot is still hanging out to show they actually landed the trick. http://www.focusskatemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Weathers_Kickfli...
Hope that was helpful, looking forward to seeing some more work in the future.
Thank you, Chris for your input. Like is said Im really new to photography and especially action photography. Im shooting with a Canon 6d so my FPS is pretty slow and I miss a lot of the in between action. Thanks for the input. Looking at your example photo I can see what mine are missing. Thanks again.
