Critique and Opinion

Hi,
I'm pretty new to Fstoppers and don't get many votes on my images. I would love some critique on my photographs .
Thanks,
Rani

Welcome! I hope these feedback can help you get more likes on your images.

Technical - I can see you like some shadows on your images. I also see that you use the burn tool on editing. I highly recommend that you use a calibrated screen when your editing. Also try to edit so that your viewers can't tell that you edit. I don't know if you color balance before you start shooting or these color changes are done on post production. YouTube color balancing on your camera so you can study how to do so.

Composition - The first portrait is a nice shot but it could be better. I feel that the pose is un natural, try relaxing your model before getting that shot. The second image can definitely use a fill light, but the composition is almost there. I feel that the subject needs to move a tab bit to the right. Try splitting your shots in 3 sections. Your camera should have a grid, try activating that grid on your menu (if it's disabled). Your third shot is a bit cluttered, the composition is off. I feel like my eye is going up to the right. I feel that there's no balance.

Impact - I can tell your going for that dramatic feel. You like shadows on your shots. The colors are throwing me off from the first two, if you can turn those to black and white then you can deliver more impact on the shots. The third image is a bit cluttered, if you can focus on composition on that it would help dramatically on the impact.

Overall try to study on color balance, shadowing and compositions. These are the stuff that I noticed on your images.

This is merely a feedback coming from someone that cares. I hope you can take this as constructive criticism and use it to better your craft. I hope to see more of your images here. Keep on shooting and mastering those three elements.

Thank you Isaac, I appreciate your feedback and will keep these elements in mind. My last image was a candid one taken with little time to think or care about composition It was really about the moment , I was being chased out of the building and I took it with a minute to spare .
Have a good week.

Rani this is a tough crowd good luck ....But i like your work : )

Your first photograph set the stage for all the other images as this appears to be a scene right out of "Angel Heart". B+

Hello -- yes indeed that´s a thing with the ratings here in the community. But don´t worry too much. . . . woah. I just saw that this post is from two years ago so I headed straight to your portfolio. Indeed since then you have gotten quite some votes (from me too now). Well I must say that I think your images are absolutely fantastic! It is hard for me to find anything to critique even in theses images you posted here two years ago. Now of course there will allways be talented other photographers or photographers with a different taste or worklow who might suggest doing this or that and improving here and there --- and that´s fine! I actually get impressed with the "impression". If an image hits me I don´t really bother anymore to dig deep into it and try to find places where improvements could be made. So then for you of course it´s difficult to decide what to do and it might lead to confusion? Anyway, the postures, the looks, the compositions -- at a first glance, like if I was walking into a gallery and seeing them printed and presented upon the wall, I would be as much delighted by them as I am seeing them here on a computer screen. Thumbs up very high and keep on like you do, Heiko.
