STEVEN SELWAY's picture

New

Hi everyone.
I am very new to photography but would love to specialise in this kind of photography.

I have tried to take some of my wife, with her permission, but they never seem to turn out right.

I would appreciate and tips and suggestions.

Thank you for listening.

Steve.

Steve, it might be helpful to post a couple of pictures for us to see what you're doing. If you're not comfortable posting pictures of your wife, perhaps you could find a model to develop some pictures. I think it will be hard to get feedback from the group without some kind of visual aid.

Thank you for the feedback. I feel okay posting photographs of my wife. I will post some very soon so as to get feedback.. Thank you once again. Steve.

One tip, along the lines of Stephen's comments, taking shots of your wife is definitely an easy way to get some practice in. But an alternate option for getting some practice would be to simply connect with some of the local modeling groups/agencies to find a model who has experience modeling boudoir. I know, for my area, there at least five different groups on facebook just for the purpose of connecting models to photographers.

You could start by interacting with the groups, and find some models who have some decent amount of experience modeling boudoir. I think you would find it beneficial to pay an experienced model to be your subject. Just explain that you need the practice and the on-location experience. The benefit of that is you'll be working with someone who knows how to pose/carry themselves in front of the camera, which will make it a lot easier for you to get that practice in.

Taking shots of your wife is great, but unless she has some decent experience being a model and especially if she's not 100% comfortable with it, then that will show in your images. Practicing with someone who has experience in the genre will be a different, hopefully educational, experience for you. Just a thought, good luck, and like Stephen said, make sure to post some images here so we can see what your shooting.
