This shot was taken in the ghost town of Nelson, NV. Full disclosure, the sky is from Acadia NP. I recently dropped and destroyed my Canon 16 - 35mm 2.8 lens. Very pricey. Ouch! I was considering replacing it with a Sigma 20mm 1.4 prime lens, which was recommended by an astrophotographer. The reviews of the lens indicate there is a bit of a problem with commas in the corners. After considerable research, it seems that there is no "perfect lens" for that application. Any advice would greatly appreciated.

A cheap option for just astrophotography is the rokinen 14mm f2.8 (i dont know if i write that correctly, but google will find it)
I use the Nikon 14-24 F2.8 on a nikon d3x which you can use as well when using an adapter
Many thanks, I'll check it out and read some reviews.
It's, btw, a manuel focus lens (the 14mm prime)
Late to the conversation, but I use a Rokinon 10mm at present. I like the images I get with it. Although, I too have been pondering lens options of late. Could I have more versatility if went with a 17-50mm macro zoom... that can switch between manual and auto focus? Or is a prime lens always going to be the best option for a decent Milkyway photo? Always questions. :)
