The Sun and the Moon: Edited to add last photo
I wanted to see how my 50 year old Canon FD 800mm f/5.6 s.s.c. would handle photographing both the Sun and the Moon.

Sterling in silhouette
I held a lighting workshop recently. Sterling was the model. I rarely shoot silhouettes but I wanted to incorporate that arch into a shot. Backlighting became an obvious choice.

i like the fact that you didn't just go for a silhouette on these. you did get a bit to bright on the foreground elements they should probably look a bit more natural rather than like someone is shining a spotlight on the objects. check your iso settings as the images will get grainy and noisy. composition wise the second is very nice could probably up the contrast and whites to increase the view of the stars. look at the people in this category and study how they do things there are some extremely talented people in this category.
Thanks Joseph, useful comments.
