M42 in HaLRGB

Another annual image taken of the Great Orion Nebula. This target never gets old. Tried some new techniques using a screen mask invert and deconvolution to bring out the faint tendrils of dust and gas, high pass filters for localized sharpening. Around 11 hours of exposure. Let me know what you think.

beautiful shot ..i know nothing about this genre but can you boost contrast to make the color pop more or do you lose things in the process

Yes, too much contrast can make you lose detail. With deep space imaging, the luminance detail is the crown jewel. It's a fine line between chrominance and luminance (something I struggle with often).

good to know one day ill try it out

you loose a lot of the dim nebulosity by boosting contrast. You can do it selectively with layers tho. But the background in space should never be black... FYI

What a wonderful picture.
