Milky Way over ruins

Hey guys

Sorry my innocence, I’ve never done Astro photos before...
I was planning to attempt shooting the Milky Way over some ruins, but I’ve got a doubt regarding focus.

I understand when doing Astro you tend to focus to infinity, but wouldn’t it mean my ruins would be completely off?

Do I focus on the ruins or infinity?

Seems like a really stupid question, but it’s something I need to get right as won’t be easy to “try both” when shooting in the dark...

Thanks

You can focus on the stars and only the stars will be sharp. you can focus on your foreground and depending on distance and focal length you may be past your hyperfocal distance and both will be sharp. Or you can do an exposure focused on the stars for the stars and an exposure focused on the foreground which will be a longer exposure and then combine the 2 in post
