I'm a photo hobbyist who has been increasingly active that past year trying to build my skills and find my niche. At present, I just love to shoot everything, however, I'm drawn to people and portraits at the present. Maybe it's the cold winter weather ;)
In any case, this was my first portrait attempt (it's actually a "selfie" so to speak).
I'm open to any CC or critiques you may have! Always looking to build my knowledge and skills.
It is a lovely, classic photo and very intimate looking. I was guessing a father before I saw that this was a self-portrait. The textures in the sweater and coat are very gripping and draw you in more however it makes it tough for facial features to compete as is.
Over-all it comes off a tiny bit dark on my monitor. The skin tones in the face also come off as waxy which could be LR settings but also a bit darker than the rest as this, in my mind should be the central focus. I am also drawn down to the contrast or light spot in the hands where they seem a bit crowded by the crop and may generally be an area where you don't want to draw focus.
Hopefully helpful....well done!
Thank-you so much Ken. Much appreciated. I see what you mean about darkness & waxy look. This was post editing and I now note quite a different on tones between the hands and face.
Thanks for your framing / crop advice too.
Very helpful!
Thanks again,
Scott
