Gauging Interest

Hello All! I am curious if there is any interest in a new group with a minimalist/abstract theme. Not just black and white - just thought I'd test the idea with this active group. There are a lot of false start groups so before jumping in to this, I am curious if there is a need.

In honor of that question, here is a minimal wildlife image of a great blue heron. It was mid day with blaring sun so I thought I'd work with it and try this. What do you think? Feedback always welcome!

I think it works like a champ!

Count me in, Ruth! Thanks for taking the initiative. I've put word out to a couple of people as well. I like your heron. I couldn't bring myself to cheat so badly, but some people would invert the image left-to-right i.e. a mirror image so the bird is facing/heading/looking right. Don't know what you think of this principle.

I always find myself in a quandary with the actual mirror image here, the reflection of a key subject in water. This image is interesting because the inverted outline is so streaked, but still intelligible. The quandary is that using the reflection results in an image that is divided in two, halfway up in the stereotypical case (e.g.outlook over a lake at mountains or trees). So even in this case I'd sacrifice some of the reflection and crop. I've done the inversion as well, to complete the heresy.

Hmmm ... very interesting. I will do a little tinkering with this too. I have also pondered this rule as I am left handed and tend to make things face left. I've wondered if that is a thing. Anyway - philosophyzing aside - thanks for your time and feedback!

I reckon it IS to do with you handedness.

"group with a minimalist/abstract theme"

Minimalist and/or abstract I would definitely be interested in (take part in), two subjects I am always drawn to and seem to create naturally.

I think the idea of a group dedicated to minimalist and abstract themes would be nice. I'd participate in that.
