Another cell in Eastern State Penitentiary, high mid-day sun creates a dramatic light shaft, accentuating the dilapidation.

Love old building. Nice work.

Thank you Tyler ~

Great image Joe. Unless I'm wrong the dwelling comes with a comfy recliner in an adjoining room :-)

LOL, the red recliner is an upgrade...

Nice one bud ha ha.

Looks like a room out of a Bond movie where bad guys "politely ask" questions of the good guys. So from my point of view, good story telling!

Ha ha, nice, thanks much.

really like this Joe i want to give it a 4 so bad i just want to see an individual sitting there probably a woman back exposed looking back over her shoulder not facing camera or a dude hunched over facing away head in hands. im assuming this is a closed prison? lol i just read the header duh... great textures great light beautiful shadows

Joe this is a favorite for me! I love your moody take on this site. You do these rooms so amazingly well. The light and color are perfect! Are you on a special access photo tour? I'd love I formation about getting in to this site. As you can guess though, you would need to come find me days later as I would still be in this room shooting these walls!

Superior work Joe!!

PS after hours of finding Rhorshac patterns in these walls, I will be you model of insanity for Joe's suggested shot. :).

Eastern State Penitentiary is open to the public, you can do tours but that is mostly if you want to get more of the history. Plus there are a few areas only available by tour, but that does not make this any less great if you skip those. My wife and I went last year, we planned on a two hour walk and shoot, we spent the whole day shooting. We got there, had coffee and breakfast across the street, went in when the place opened, shot a bunch, went back out for lunch, changed lenses, went back in for the afternoon. In the afternoon the sun shifted and changed the lighting for better or worse in many of the spaces, so it was like seeing a whole new environment in a few areas. Lots to see and shoot there, soooo much texture your eye will bleed ruth haha.

We do plan on going back sometime and seeing what else we can find or try re-shooting where we think we could do better.

I'll take you up on that modeling, we gotta keep Joe Cole happy! :)

I think we will.make the trip as well. My husband will love it. You are really doing awesome work Joe! I love your stuff at this site. It will inspire me to step back and look at a bigger picture.
:)
