It was a rainy day today. I was at the beach and was shooting in black and white straight from the camera. Bayshore has a nice pier but there were people on it fishing. I took 9 stacked in the camera shots to get rid of the people. Then, after looking at the final image, i decided to try a sepia look.
Not sure this works and was wondering what I should have done differently?
I think it works fine just as you've done it, Ruth. The stark patterns in the pier, and that slightly mystical effect of the background fading into nothingness work well together, and really appeal to me.
I don't know if it's the remnants of the people, but something behind the railings towards pier end doesn't look quite right, and has a somewhat distracting effect. If you hadn't mentioned that you'd edted people out, I don't know if I'd have noticed, but I felt compelled to look for them - and may have it totally wrong!
Not wrong. I waited between each shot for people to move in order to ghost them out. (I was feeling quite clever!). Turns out that what you are seeing is their fishing equipment through the railing. When I tried to clone it out, I couldn't because each section of the railing is shaped slightly differently because of the angle of the pier. I never photoshop this much as, for me, spending this much time trying to 'fix' a photo means the it had too many issues. I posted it here to see if anyone noticed anything and you picked it up right away. I'm just going to have to go back on a weekday when there won't be fisherman. Oh the sacrifices we make! ;)
Well, knowing that they're just coolers or creels or whatever stuff that was actually there suddenly makes it all OK! It was the thought of amputated people that got to me a bit...
And you're cleverer than I, Ruth - I haven't focus-stacked, stitched, comped or combined multiple files in one image at all, ever.
My camera does it do all I need to do is count. :)
Composition and the lines... fading of the bridge in the distance..spot on...Ruth.
I've looked at this shot several times and I've come to the conclusion that I like it. It's good. Good composition. Creative thinking. I like it.
I appreciate that Ron - even more so that you had to decide this! :)
Great capture Ruth, sepia choice adds to the calm character as well.
Thanks Joe!
