Bulbiferous Geophytes

Limited time to venture out with the camera lately, so I'm still playing around with flowers. These two Tulips were one of my favorite shots this past week. I was really liking the wide open petals, the sun was out, I positioned myself so the sun would give them some intense backlighting (their petals become more interesting I think since the light shows through a bit). I have a few hot spots, but I may keep them for the extra contrast.

What ya think?

Another beauty Joe. I love the way you have captured the texture within each petal.
Question - is the black background from the original image or are you pulling a selection of the flower in PS?

Thanks Alan. The black background in this shot is the back of my 4 foot reflector (which is black) it folds down to about 14 inches in diameter so it’s easy to have in a bag. I just do a simple clean up of the uneven parts of the background in PS. (Another black background I sometimes use in shots like this is black foam board, but I usually won’t hike with those). I usually like to have as clean a shot as I can like this right in the camera.

Thanks Joe, I have a smaller collapsible reflector but hadn't considered using that. Yours does a good job - it looks like it's time to upgrade!

Really nice. I like especially the edges of the petals as they catch the light.

Thanks Phillip
