Ruth Carll's picture

First one to the party!

Out of the sea climbs a living fossil. It is mating season for horseshoe crabs and they do this during the full moon. Literally 10s of thousands will come out of the sea onto the beach to mate and then crawl back in. (And we count them. 1, 2, 3, 2127, ... thank goodness for volunteers!) These interesting animals have been here since before the dinosaurs.

They are a favorite for their interesting, highly photogenic look. I thought this works in black and white. Feedback welcome!

EDIT - Second image. A little less water and a little more detail.

So what you are saying Ruth is that you are somewhat of an admitted voyeur :-)

I think the composition and conversion of this tell the story, but there's not a lot of details in the subject to make it readily identifiable and interesting.

As a documentary or perhaps part of a series this would be a solid shot, but otherwise I'd like to see more of the crab itself.

Check out this new one. Less water / more detail. Is this what you had in mind or were you suggesting seeing even more of the crab....like feet?
