Hiyas Ruth all the time...its about patience and understanding...i talk to anyone...they see my camera they ask questions.....its only sometimes... when i walk past them ...i have my lens focused on them..i pre focus...on my manual lenses this was AF.i have sat people of all kinds..But i have the greatest respect for the homeless, i will never make a photo of them...never...i do have one which is scary...she ran away form the hospital...in Toronto..i will post.
Respect for your philosophy about photographing homeless folks. You may enjoy the work of a Los Angeles based photographer, named Fred Hoerr. He documents homelessness in a way that gives dignity to his subjects and brings a couple points to the forefront:
1) It's an ongoing issue which needs to be addressed more effectively in LA;
2) Reminder that at the core they have the same humanity as any of us.
I won't spam a link here, but you can find him and his "Riversystem," project on the web if you want.
Have you ever had someone see you and get mad that you took their photo?
