Logan Cressler's picture

My first attempt at a more fine art style B&W

I am not a huge shooter of B&W images, as that is not usually what my clients want. However I had the opportunity to make these for a local Museum. I quite enjoyed making them. It was not an easy task as nothing can be touched or moved, and the space around the displays was incredibly limited. The Dall Sheep horn for instance, I wish I could have focus stacked it, but I did not have a tripod tall enough, as the sheep is mounted about 14 feet in the air. But, a couple of these wound up being my favorite B&Ws that I have done.

Would love some input and/or suggestions/CC from people who shoot B&W more. I was intentionally making these as high contrast as possible.

I think these are all appealing, Logan. One general observation is that all the symmetrical subjects are shown symmetrically. This is not a criticism in a negative sense, as this maintains a museum-like formality in the series, which appeals to me, although I'd have been tempted to show some from an angle as well (if it were possible!), if only for my own personal viewing.

Symmetry was actually one of the big things I was going for with these. These images are less for people to see what is in the museum, and more to make postcards, prints, merchandise, etc so they can sell it

Sure, Logan. You were obviously aware of what you were doing. Great job. The images would be excellent in the roles you describe. Good luck with the sales! And post some more fine art style B&W images if you have them. I look forward to seeing them.
