This was taken back in November a few minutes after sunset. Besides the colors the sky was otherwise uninteresting. Sometimes converting to black and white can completely change the mood/atmosphere of a photo. To me it adds a mysterious quality to this. I can almost hear the eerie buoy in the background. Thanks for looking.
Interesting image, Kyle! I'm impressed by the way you keep coming to this pier, as you've acknowledged, and portraying it in different ways.
This image stands out, despite the number of times you've "had a go" here, and goes to show that revisiting familiar and favoured locations, while obviously carrying the risk of repetitiviness, alternataly can lead to refinement and a deeper appreciation of what is on offer. I think this image illustrates the latter, and is my favourite of those you've posted.
If you ARE drawn to a particular subject or location, it probably resonates with your being in a way that probably cannot be put into words, but might be in an image - like here. Well done!
Now you'll tell me it's a different pier.... ;-)
Thanks Chris! It is the same pier 😆. I’ve made kind of a tradition of going there the Friday after thanksgiving. This is from this past year. I grew up around there but no longer live there and I really miss living near the ocean. I think you’re right about a place that resonates with me. When I first started going I would just take all of the typical pier shots. But now as I’ve gotten better at photography when I come here I try to challenge my self to come away with something that’s a little different than you would typically see. Whether its different compositions or as in this case turning a pretty blue hour shot into an interesting black and white. Most of the shots I get are just to have something new for my instagram but every now and then I’ll get something that’s a little more portfolio worthy. Thanks again!
