Thought I would share my most recent project. This was created for my girlfriends sisters holiday card. This is an annual tradition and one of the more satisfying and fun projects I have all year. I do not post all of my work on Fstoppers as most of what I do is Art Directing, but this seems this image fit fairly well for this group discussion.
As you can tell the image has a very saturated, cartoonish style which can be seen as over processed and it was the look I was going for. Each element was shot separately, the truck, kids, dog. I used a three light setup with the main light aimed through the drivers side window, rim sun light was created using a bare strobe with a 1/2 CTO gel, fill light was placed in the cab to soften any hard shadows.
Lovely roadtrip image to Santa's secret workshop! What's not to love about it, it's cheery and colorful that matches the season and great for a postcard, but (and unfortunately there is a but) the lens flare is a bit too much for my taste and rather detracts instead of adding to the picture and a bit too J.J. Abrams ;))
A Lovely fun image, good work.
Hello Mike, Love this look. It's something I've been working on but just haven't gotten it down perfect just yet. May I ask what software you used to edit this with and to get that cartoonish style? I will soon be working on a children's book and will be going this route to illustrate it. Thanks for your help brother!
