Debra Hausman's picture

New Picture I've been working on.

Hi,
Here is a new piece I've been working on. Most of the parts are from my photography. Any suggestions to make it better?

Everyone has to start somewhere, so please do not take any of this the wrong way. The resolution of each element within your composite should be similar, proportionally speaking, to the final result. It's clear that the large rocks in the background are much smaller resolution, while the model and lightning are higher resolution. The background behind the model has large amounts of grain/noise, while other elements, like the lighting and model, do not. The shadow represents one light source, however there are three (from the lightning) and another pointed at her. i would clean up the edges of some of the elements as well. It's a great start at a composite. It takes a lot of time to learn how to make it look realistic. Keep working on it and message me if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

Thank you for your comments. This isn't as easy as I thought it would be which is why I needed the feed back. I think I used a dissolve filter for the lighting behind her, in retrospect not a good idea. I photographed most of the pieces so I'll try to watch the resolution in the next try. Thanks again, Debra

I'm no expert on composites (in fact I've never done one) but I do spend a lot of time colour grading my work. In this instance I think trying to tie together the different elements and observing some photographic principals, such as depth of field, bokeh, vignetting etc. would help give more impact with minimum effort. Hope you don't mind but I loaded your image in Analalogue Efex and this is the results of 3 minutes worth of work to bring in some of these and overlay a film simulation to tie all the different elements together.
