Technical issues with complex and large montages..

Thanks for the feedback, in advance. Having trouble finding information on a few technical issues such as:

WORKING ON A LARGE FORMAT MONTAGE, IS IT BETTER, TO WORK IN THE PSB AT IMAGE PRINT SIZE, INCLUDING EVERY COMPONENT EN HD, OR IS IT PREFERABLE TO WORK IN A SMALL FORMAT AND AT THE END RESIZE THE TIFF WITH ALL LAYERS MERGED. WE ARE TALKING OF PSB IMAGES THAT ARE 12 GIGS OR LARGER.

WHEN ADDING VARIOUS PHOTOS TO A MONTAGE, IS IT PREFERABLE THAT THEY ALL BE HIGH RES ? I.E. TIFFS, OR JPGS. AND, IF WE KNOW THAT A PHOTO WILL BE MODIFIED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE OVERALL IMAGE, IS IT BEST TO CONVERT OT SMART OBJECTS EVEN THOUGH THIS WILL CAUSE THE IMAGE TO WEIGH MORE.

IF I WANT TO IMPROVE RESOLUTION IN A MONTAGE IS IT PREFERABLE TO RESIZE THE CANVAS OR TO ADD PIXELS ? WE HAVE FOUNF THAT ADDING HI RES PNGS TO A SMALL CANVAS, THE IMAGES LOSE INFORMATION, SO WE SOLVED THIS BY ADDING PIXELS TO THE ORIGINAL CANVAS IMAGE, I,E. THE BASE OF THE MONTAGE. BUT THIS ALWAYS CAUSES THE IMAGE SIZE TO GROW EXCESSIVE SLOWING DOWN THE PROGRAM AND SOMETIMES CAUSING PS TO CRASH.

I always use the highest res images possible and convert them all to Smart Objects.
