I was hired to create an album cover for a Waylon Jennings tribute album called "Pretend I Never Happened". The client loved the concept as did his wife but after his mom saw the images she said she was disappointed in him So he backed out of the original artwork we came up with and opted for something more... well, boring. Whatever makes the client happy right?
Lesson here. Don't involve mothers in artistic matters.
Especially when you’re a grown a$$ man... singing songs about picking up hookers, made famous by an alcoholic drug abusing womanizer. God bless ‘em!
I hope you got paid something. But if you can do that kind of work he won't be your last client.
In the profession I worked in, their was an acronym created from the letters DIRTPAC.
They stood for "Do I retain this person as client?". And there was much caution about taking on certain clients in the first place.
I did get paid. In fact, he paid me quite a bit extra over the bill I gave him. (Guilty conscience?) and I didn’t give a break on the bill either. So at least that worked out for me. But my husband and I both took our names off the project credits after the change happened. Mainly because we pride ourselves in our concepts and since his final artwork was nothing worthy of our input- it didn’t represent our image at all. So we thanked him for the opportunity to create something- and cashed his check.
Very good shot. Lights and shadows are wonderful. Complementary colors are great.
Thank you!
That is so artistic that it seems like a photo-realistic painting, and would agree about the lights, shadows, and colors being great. Almost like a painter in her studio did it. Many such artists work with props, and I notice this photographer does too. The hat and beer bottle are classic.
Or what makes the client's mom happy...I like the look of the shot! BUT at first glance he looks like he is in the bathroom, maybe from the floor tiles or body posture. But after I saw the woman I realized it was a bedroom...
Is this the first version or the revised version?
This is the final for the original idea. The “revised version” that he went with for an album cover is a picture of him and his guitar case leaning against a brick wall. 🙄 we made this photo in a historic 1920’s hotel. I’m standing in the living room area shooting though the bathroom into the bedroom. We were going for sleazy hotel one night stand look. To me the bathroom adds to the sleaziness of it.
