High Speed Flash Photos, Arizona Hummingbird Species

Most photos were made using a 4 head . Olsen Ultra custom high speed flash with 1/30000th second flash duration, inherited from my father. The Lucifer Hummingbird (deep blue-violet gorget) is the rarest. They were photographed at Sunny Flats campground in Cave Creek, near Portal Arizona, and in Bog Springs Canyon, in Madera Canyon, near Green Valley, Arizona. All were photographed with a Canon body, a Canon 100mm USM f2.8 macro. The last image was shot with a 6mp Canon D60, the rest with newer models. I started at F16, but eventually changed to F22 for greater depth of field. In the last shot, I used 2 Canon EF 550EX flashes, and in the others the Olsen flash.

Those are some good shots....I like them

Those are great shots Is the flash on camera or off? I hope to shoot them some day. I bought a humming bird feeder and a couple climbing Trumpet vines. When I looked at the exif data of your images, it said the flash=No forced. But I seen flash glints in the eyes, then I read your text. I am guessing the exif is wrong. I was also surprised you used a 100mm macro was this camera mounted on a tripod or hand held? My godox Ad200 is over 8000 at 1/32 power but I am sure that is not enough to overcome ambient light but what it doesn't tell you is how close. I have a couple speedlights that are fast at 1/32 but I think they have less power than Ad200 speedlight. I guess I will have to experiment.
