Changing color to add dimension and depth....

In most cases our photos are flat not only due to the nature of RAW format images but also the light that we shoot in. In this edit i messed with the coloring quite a bit as to help give a greater sense of depth bringing warm colors to the foreground and cooling the shadows and background. In painting we do this all the time also to bring attention to subjects in painting we tend to make the main subjects brighter and more vibrant than anything else in the scene by a substantial bit. Let me know your thoughts on this particular edit and what you would do.

Really nice work, the mood and depth a much stronger in your finished photo.

I probably wouldn't change much. I think the only thing I'd do is try to remove the yellow-ish colour from the water, to make it all pure white, which is the kind of thing that sounds racist, but I promise isn't...

Tears in my eyes bro...lmao...Thanks Jordan i don't mind the yellow in this one only due to the fact that it gives an extra warm tone through the middle otherwise yes i would ditch it.

Gai jin!

haha the only reason i know that phrase is from the movie "Rising Sun" lol great movie

I'm not just a "gaijin", I'm a "baka gaijin"

I like the framing; my eyes are resting just above the middle of the image and overall everything about the photo feels balanced and inviting to look at. Nice job, excellent composition.

Thanks Francisco!

Nice job, Joseph! Good composition, as usual for you. You've got a good flow to it, not at all guaranteed just because it's an image of flowing water.

I do like the shape of the first image... ;-)

Interesting to hear more from your painter's perspective. Please do more of this. Photographers can be so technically obsessed. Your edit (as often) does look like a painting. Your subtle use of the skylight filtering through the foliage up high works well, adding a sense of depth and making me feel like climbing up there.

Thanks Chris it’s nice to be able to pull from different texhniques of the art world and apply them to photography. I don’t think I would have been able to achieve the same finish in the days of film thank god for photoshop.

Dead right about the days of film, Joseph - especially colour. Not many diehard darkroom devotees work in colour now! Better thank Mr/Ms Adobe, actually. Whoever (s)he is.
