Ruth Carll's picture

No Subtlety in Processing

Just a little tongue in cheek for Joe's last post. This is about as opposite to subtle as we can get though. Just thought I'd put this up for fun. The surroundings at this nude pool shoot were horrible. There were chairs/furniture, the house, reflections, too many people, ..... This is about the only way I could think of to save any of them.

Feedback always welcome!

Well, I'm glad you're not a get-it-right-in-camera-&-don't-process-much purist, Ruth! You have indeed salvaged a moody image from unpromising beginnings. Did you have the final result in mind at the time?

No. I'd call this more of a salvage mission!

This just goes to show that perfect conditions may not be available and sometimes you just have to work with what you have.

Great job making Lemonade Ruth!

I think you did a pretty good job masking out the background, but in my opinion, the image is very dark overall. If you look at the histogram for the file, it's ALL over on the left side of the display. I can understand you want to make the image appear less vibrant than the conditions allowed, but you've sacrificed more than half of the tones available in the image.

With a quick Levels adjustment, I brought the histogram back to something approaching normal while still keeping the shadows quite dark (and, of course, converting to B&W because the JPEG lost a lot in the Levels tweak).

This is awesome Phillip! I will do this and use this on the others from the series. I like the black and white more than I expected too!
