Snow day

So today we finally received a period of prolonged snowfall during the daylight hours, allowing to travel to one of my favorite spots by the lake before the clouds rolled in.

The first image is an indication of conditions. Others repeat some of my favorite locations of the past, and on some I experimented with using flash to highlight the falling snow.

All have received quick, global edits - I will likely revisit sometime later.

As per usual, all thoughts (good OR bad) are both valued and appreciated as they drive further discussion.

At least it's inclement weather someplace. 26°F and Sunny and rose to about 40°.

However, for February 3rd, 4th and 5th the weather changes.

Nice photos. My favorites are #2 and #5.

For my eye, #1 looks more like a snapshot than a seriously composed photo.

#3 the vehicle doesn't add to the story and is lost in the structure. Perhaps, as you said, revisiting later and bring the vehicle out a bit more?

I think #4 could do with a crop to lose the vast open field on the right. Perhaps keep it just past the edge of the tree and then match the distance of the left side tree.

What I would like to see with #5, some way to isolate from the background. Add more snow to cover the midground grasses. 🤔

#6, #7, and #8: The orange cones draw my eye immediately to then and distract from the tree and structure. Again, add snow.

Thank you for posting.

Thanks for your in-depth response Dean.
It looks like you may have some interesting weather on the horizon - will you have the chance to take advantage of that?

As for your responses......

#1 is indeed a snapshot. I grabbed this getting in the car after capturing #2 - these were the first cars I'd come across and just want to give you guys a sample of the conditions.

#3 - I have shot this location in the past, but without falling snow. (attached). I feel there is something key I am missing with this, so if you/others have suggestions on how to improve.......

#4 - thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to try recropping.

#5 - I agree on all counts, it's a matter of being there when nature is willing to cooperate.

#6-8 - one of my all-time favorite locations, and the subject of many of both traditional and ICM images. Again, I include a past example (taken during a blizzard).
I do enjoy the drama in the sky as the snowstorm rolls in on these images.

I was wondering about how others might react to the cones (distraction, or novel addition to the story?). I can easily remove of course.

#5-8 I'll heed your advice on 'adding snow', perhaps throw a few buckets in the car so I can spread it around :-)

Thanks again for your thoughtful response.

Nice added photos.

I'm not sure I will be able to take advantage of the weather next week. I am having knee replacement surgery on Tuesday...go figure 🫤

Good luck with the surgery, I'm sure it will go well.

Look on the bright side - with a new knee you'll be able to get out a lot more and capture those early Spring storms!
