Giulio Roman's picture

That one prayer...

Don't know if this picture fits into this group, but wasn't able to find a better one.

I just bought my first prime lens, 50mm f/1.4, and it's amazing how good it isolates the subject from the background/foreground.

Have you ever stepped into a church, looking at the candles that people light up, and wondered what those people were asking, missing, thinking?

A wonderful exploration of light and lines Giulio.
Enjoy that new hunk of glass and please do share with us your discoveries.

A beautiful capture, Giulio! Very thought-provoking, indeed. :)

I love it. Think it works

Of course it fits in here! First of all you are experimenting with a new lens. Second you show us a picture with a very shallow depth of field, with a very well placed focus. I consider this as minimalism. Also a very nice composition, the lines guiding into the picture.

Molto bene Giulio, mi piace.

PS: Do you speak German or Italian as native language? Probably both, when you live in South-Tirol. We both sharing a border. ;)

Hi, thanks. I am native italian but understand 100% german. My speaking skill is a little rusty though

I'm only understand a little and speak a few words Italian. But it works for me usually. ;)

I've never been in Bolzano or Merano... I think I should change that. ;) I've only saw nice pictures from there.

drop me a message if you plan to do so, it would be nice to meet an fstopper in real life ;)

Yes I'll do. I planned in August, visiting Chiavenna. So I think, I can a detour through the Valtellina to Bolzano. I'll let you know.

Hi Giulio - it is nice to see you back!

I also feel that this fits. This group is morphing a little into one where people can try new things and get feedback. While the goal is minimalism, abstract and experimental work, I am fine with submissions like this. I just don't want this to become a repetition of groups that are already out there and strong such and Landscape and Nature, stock images or any of the portrait/human oriented groups.

I have the same lens and it is one of my go-to lenses. It gets clarity and color that surpass most of my other lenses. Congratulations and have fun with it!

As for this image - this is strictly personal preference as the image is very nicely done and I have no constructive feedback for technique or composition - I wish the words weren't there. Even though it is realistic, they are so sharp and the way they face the front almost makes it look like they were put on afterwords. It is all my eye can look at! The image is so nice and has a great mood but all I can focus on is that text. I think it is that the candle looks like it was turned to face the camera as if you want us to read the message. If that is the case - success!

That said - overall this is a SUPER nice image!!!

;)

Hi Ruth, thanks for the feedback. I actually rearranged ALL the candles to do this shot :-D
