I am trying to spend more time learning and practicing photo impressionistic techniques ahead of peak foliage season.
This is a image of an Ash tree, it early fall leaves ablaze with color on a sunny day.
Critical feedback is welcomed, do you appreciate this genre, have any ideas on how the image could be improved?
I have added to my portfolio should you wish to prefer your critique to remain anonymous and express your thoughts via the voting system..
I m impressed.
It does kick Ashe.
I could see a bench w someone siting.
Ha ha - thanks El Pic!
Hi Alan! I've listened to you & others, & looked, and I still can't appreciate the genre, so I won't comment on the image, other than to say it's of the quality we now expect from you. It's as valid a form of expression as any. Somehow for me, if it departs too far from "straight" photography, I'd rather see a painting. Makes no sense at all, I know! But since you asked...
Thanks Chris, as always I appreciate your honesty. As with any genre/artform it will appeal to some more than others.
Just another path to explore.....
Hi Alan,
I believe an artist can use whatever medium and technique they want to achieve their vision. Would you tell a painter who does perfect realism that they should have evident brush strokes so that the piece doesn't look like a photograph? As you know, I photograph my paintings because I like the effect that the photo processing achieves. And, I often do soft "painterly" processing as I like this look.
This image is well done and the colors are nice. I think you achieve your goal of impressionist style. The composition is a little simple but that said, it is very reminiscent of the subject matter of this style of painting would have.
One suggestion I have, and this is just me thinking out loud, when it come to fall foliage I'd love to see a photographic composition with this impressionist painting style treatment. For example, you could do some unique work by shooting from a lower angle/alternative perspective and adding this processing. I don't know if this makes sense but there you have it!
Keep at it Alan. Personally, I appreciate those at the creative fringes!!
Thanks for the support Ruth. All are good suggestions - I am focused on learning the technique at the moment but trying to branch out (ahem.....) on subject matter.
I'll certainly take your comments to heart and will try to expand the compositions
BTW - I do have a few more images on my website and am trying to keep a running blog going with experimentation results.
Check it out if interested, there will be more to come...
