ICM - beyond horizons

This is an image I've just added to my portfolio and a companion to a similar image, Mountain Flow which was posted earlier (I have included to allow comparison). Both rely on the same technique, applied in a slightly different manner in each.

By reviewing such images I feel I am starting to better understand the effects varying motions have on the final result, which I hope will lead to better visioning and forecasting of effects. Perhaps this may help others also.

Sincere feedback always welcomed. It might be an interesting and educational exercise to see if folks can tell how each was formed, and whether there is a preference for one or the other.

In Camera or In Photo Shop ??

All ICM in camera, with global adjustments in Lightroom

I like this technique a lot... dumb question, what is ICM? Obviously I’m new to this!

That’s not dumb at all. It stands for Intentional Camera Movement.

If interested in more information I have been adding results of my own experimentation on my website (blog & projects). If you want to get a head start you’ll find helpful information from my own experiences.

I will most certainly check out your site, thanks! The use of chance has a Dadaist vibe to it which I am really enjoying even though you have obviously put intention and planning into each shot. Very cool 😎

Love it, calm, dreamlike. #2 is my fav. Amazed that you were able to keep the horizon so crisp. Have you ever tried ICM on a pan head?

Thanks Chad. I believe I have tried ICM on a tripod in my earlier days, but I prefer the freedom that hand-held offers.

I do se your point on the crispness of the horizon. I wish I could say that this due to it being well thought out but it wasn't (ie just luck). I believe for these I may have held the camera to register the base image then swept following the form of the mountains to create the 'flow'.
