I have just uploaded my latest experiment with multiple exposure images to my portfolio and thought I'd share with the group.
This is the result of 13 images taken walking in an arc around the front of the tree on the left. Images are selectively layered, blended and masked in Photoshop.Through experimentation I am finding that attention needs to be given to the surroundings/background, and I have been trying to be more selective when layering to ensure interesting elements (like the students, lamp post) are maintained.
It's fun experimenting with this technique, and with its minimal technical requirements is very flexible.
Feedback (good OR bad) /questions always welcomed as it helps us all grow.
Really like this. Impressionistic.
Thanks for your kind feedback Bruce!
Thanks for you comments Peter. I actually toned back the colors as they proved too distracting and prefer the more subtle approach.
Very interesting result.
I like the subdued colours.
Try making most of the frames to show the images of the couple on the path as a single sharp object.
Thanks Arthur!
Another interesting shot Alan. Really like seeing your work, a lot different than most of the stuff on this site. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the bikes on the bottom right but I know this is experimental. Look forward to seeing your next post
Thanks for the feedback Adrian, I appreciate hearing your viewpoint.
Thanks Adrian, as with Josh your comment helped me identify an issue that I was not fully aware of. Hopefully you will prefer the edited version.
Thanks for the comment.
Great image! Agree that this is a solid application of this technique. I'm not always the biggest fan of this type of work, but I think that it's is done very well and I thoroughly enjoyed the image. I like the bikes against the tree, but agree with Adrian that I'm not sure that the bikes at the bottom right add to the shot for me (personal preference to be sure!). Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind comments Josh - I'll be sure to keep experimenting.
Hi Josh, your thought about the bikes lower right struck a chord. I feel they are helpful in balancing/framing the image but that the vibrant red was too much of a pull on the eye.
I have knocked down the saturation of the bikes in that are and feel the eye is better drawn into the image.
Thanks for the helpful comment.
Really like this, you seem like to be getting a far better understanding of the technique and applying it to good effect. Aptly it appears to blur the boundary between "photography" and artistic impression, when the two are merged it can have surprisingly pleasant results.
Thanks Mike, artistic impressionism was certainly the intent so it is gratifying that you mention that.
Comments like yours/others in the thread are so motivating so know that your words have an impact.
