Bruce Pryde's picture

Wind from the west

Took this on a very long exposure using 8 stop nd filter. In pse I inverted the colours. I love to create a surreal emotion in my work. Any thoughts please?

Curious our subjectivity - with bushfires raging around Australia, this image called them to mind, both the swirling flames & smoke, and the colourless aftermath. Interesting image, and surreal as you say Bruce.

Didn't recall you're from Queensland until my earlier comment, Bruce. Were you thinking of the fires in doing this? Just endlessly curious about the creative process.

Chris, at the time I was not thinking about a fire in the scene just liked the effect. However at this point in time it could be very relevant. I took a long exposure from the deck at my home in a strong wind. I was working on different exposure times trying the nd filter. I inverted the colours and changed the levels. Yesterday and today the bush fire part is coming into play as we have had one nearby each day. Hope I was not having a bit of a premonition. I have packed the camera gear and photos and I am ready to bolt.

Hope you're OK, Bruce. Victoria's turn is yet to come, but it's looking grim.

The subdued palette is very pleasing; this is like a charcoal drawing instead of a photograph. Fantastic contrasts of light and dark!

Thankyou. Glad you like it
