Lone Shadow · Minimalism

First time trying out minimalism! Worked on these for about 4 hours. The original photos are a self-portrait of mine, a close-up photo of a white wall, and a macro photo of a piece of print paper.
Added the snow & a little rain in Polarr Photo Editor Pro.

Looks like a snowstorm! I like the landscape one more - feels more...alone.

I agree. The widescreen format shows the vastness of the snow.

I agree with Sz O. The landscape one feels a lot better. It evokes those feelings of awe and scale. Makes me feel tiny. It took me a minute to even see you in that corner. You might consider darkening your silhouette for better visibility. Incredible image.

Thanks Matthew! The vertical alignment is originally used to design a cover for my school assignment. It looks like this:

Matthew, I tried darkening it, but then the portrait seemed separated from the scene (considering the composition of this image stated below the topic). So I decided to let it blend into the snow a bit.

These are great Hunter! I agree with Sz O and Matthew on all points. Fabulous cover image too. Nice work.

I don't know what it is but images like this always seem to amaze me. I do like the landscape prior ration as Sz O has pointed out it really makes the vastness apparent. But the 2nd orientation is also very powerful. Both great images. I'd say look into something known as luminosity masks and get a more soft look to the images. I have one in my portfolio black and white (sorry not trying to plug, but hard to explain what I mean without you seeing it). I think it would really suit some of the snowflakes as well as some of the subtle colour tones present in the image.

Thanks, Jaspreet, but I didn't quite get what you mean. Can you give an example edit using the original jpg file of this photo?(https://app.degoo.com/share/p8XcG1RSVkJflV)

Hey this is a video that simplfies luminosity masks hope this kind of explains it.

I am sorry, but I live in china and I don't have a VPN , so I don't have access to YouTube & Google. By the way, I know luminosity masks. But I don't know what kind of effect you want with the photo.

Great work Hunter. The sizing and positioning of the figure in the frame relays how small man is compared to nature (especially in the landscape format) conveying a sense of bleakness and isolation.
