The Helmet

This is another photo I took with my macro reversal ring. It's a lego minifigure's stormtrooper helmet. In post I ran into some issues, particularly on the focus. I'm still not sure if I got it to an adequate level of sharpness, so I'd appreciate some feedback on that. As always, any critique or comments are welcome.

Edit: I added another photo. Same story/description. Which one do you guys like better?

I like it. The focus and sharpness looks good to me. Is this a focus stack, or a heavy crop? seems like a lot of depth of field for such a small object.

No focus stacking, very little cropping (I think it only lost 300 square pixels), but ON1 Photo Raw is very good at resolving details. It started out as about half of that depth of field originally.

I didn't know you could get depth of field back in post. Any time I try to sharpen things back up in light room it starts to get obvious fast. You must be getting a lot of magnification on your reverse lens.

It can go a long way before it gets obvious. I never actually use the sharpening tool; rather, I use structure and details, or dynamic contrast if I need. The reversal ring allows me to get up to 5.5:1 magnification before any cropping. This was about half of that.

Wow that's a lot of mag.

Yeah. At full magnification, the depth of field is unbelievably small. I'm still trying to find what to do with it, since whatever I take a picture of has to be so small. I have it on a zoom lens, so I can go from about 1:1 to the 5.5:1 depending on the object.
