I came across these trees while scouting on a camping trip and was struck by the two colored trees that stood out.
Another ICM - I'd be interested to hear comments in general and which people prefer. I feel that each provides a different feeling/meaning, wondering if others feel the same.
I look forward to your personal insight.
Beautiful image. I absolutely love the composition and colors in this. Perfect in every regard that way. As far as the lighting, I definitely prefer the second image. The two colored trees remind of the colors of springtime/ easter, and as such, the extra bit of brightness helps. I think it can use a bit more brightness, and maybe a touch more vibrance to really draw the focus on that beautiful color.
Thanks Matthew, I really appreciate your feedback. I suspected that at least some would prefer the 2nd, due to the 'pop' factor ( a feeling further strengthened by your suggestions). This is one I'm going to have to dwell on (as I often do to as initial feeling can change over time).
Glad you like it, have you been out yourself recently?
You are really on to something here with this one. It was a very good image. I haven't been out myself recently; I went back to school this week, so I haven't had much time. I hope to take some more soon though.
I have to admit that I have spent sixty years avoiding camera movement, but then I was doing reportage rather than art. Your work has made me question whether there might be another direction.
As my grandmother told me in a completely different context, the real problem is to identify and understand the questions. The answers will all flow from there.
Thanks Andrew. You should definitely try it. It's a lot of fun, but be aware that like anything else it takes practice to get desired results
If interested Stephanie Johnson started an ICM photo magazine (which highlights fantastic work) and has a facebook group you can join (ICMphotomag) if you want to gain inspiration and display your work.
Also..... I have started a 4 part series on ICM techniques on my blog if interested in expanding your knowledge (https://www.alanbrownphotography.com/blog) and of course I'm frequently posting samples of my latest experimentations.
Good luck, would love to see some of your work posted.
Matthew's right, Alan - beautiful.
These images somehow have an unusual feel for me compared to your usual, Alan (not that that's always the same!). There's a kind of closed-in, almost claustrophobic feeling - perhaps it's the amount of grey and their generally low key. I'm probably swayed towards the first because it has more of that feeling. I do like Matthew's, though, as well.
Surprising the difference what looks like 2/3 stop makes!
One thing I've said before about other of your images applies here, though - they remind me of charcoal sketches, and the looseness these can have, very unlike most photography.
Well done.
Thanks Chris, I have the same feeling. The first for me provides a more accurate depiction of the location (ie in the midst of the forest), the second (and Matthew's) more pop.
To be true to myself I'll likely land on the first, but want to give time for the images to stew and see what sticks after a coupe of weeks.
