Experimental... Always wanted to try this style of editing; trying to make something of photos I'd normally just take for archival reasons - in this case power towers and lines.
Textured edits, layer mixing, and the birds are composites (though still photos from that same outing at the Marsh).
Not everyone's cup of tea and def jumps head first into the "creative edit" category; but thought I'd share what I've been doing the past day or two. It's nothing new (to the field) as I'm sure most photographers have tried it at least once; just new to me and my first attempts.
Ignore the borders; I'm still in my boarder phase! :)
Hi Joe. Appreciate your attempts of trying new. Would be interesting to learn how it develops further.
cheers.
It's fun to experiment and I think you're on the right track Joe. I do feel these would be better if the image was taken on a dull day, better still with gray & moody clouds overhead.
The blue sky/bright sunlit areas seem to contradict the story you are trying to portray.
I look forward to you next round, I'm sure your edits will look great.
I tend to agree with Alan... though i love the grain/grit in the images...
Thank you Mike.
I've been playing around a bit more in the past few days... These images remind me of old (not taken care of) oil paintings students would do as "studies" from centuries past. Where they were bright back when painted, but have broken down over time, dulled and changed more yellow/orange; like the little paintings no bigger then 4x6.
I appreciate the feedback; I'll just have to experiment further!
It's interesting how different images provoke emotion from different people. These were not a big hit, or a hit at all, with my normal crowd; but in a couple people it really triggered emotion and responses even though my normal work dose nothing for them.
Generally, I normally just do basic edits; so this much editing is def outside my wheelhouse.
Please note, I meant my first response above talking about those on my social media; and absolutely not meant in a negative light at all. I apologize if it came off that way!
I always appreciate the feedback here; I mean that. :)
Not at all Joe, I think you come across as not negative at all.
I wouldn’t worry about what others think, especially the social media crowd. I think that media is driven more by quick, impactful images and most don’t take the time to view images at full size to appreciate.
Social Media is definitely a fickle beast for sure! The same image uploaded months apart can do completely differently when it comes to reactions.
I had a good friend even suggest I upload 4k so he can see it in 4k on his phone since his phone can display 4k (or there abouts). Normally I'd agree... then said, 4k, on a 4 inch screen, really? Sure he could "zoom in" but full screen there would be no point.
I normally upload to FB at 1MP (and they will reduce it further), and all other sites at 3MP.. so right around 2k... Okay a bit of a tangent but it still relates. It's all good though.
Vijay and Alan, thank you. :)
