While I hate the names of the "star levels" (snap shot, needs work, etc.) it is probably because they have some truth to them. The image is in my portfolio and it was 2-starred - needs work. I'm sure it does! I would love your thoughts.
It's all subjective and personal tastes of course. Here I pulled back the mid-tones and highlights, pulled in more dynamic range. Perhaps it helps?
I'd love to see a flower in this style but with a little back-light for a rim light to pop the silhouette-edge of the petals. But like I said just personal taste which I'd never "vote down".
The problem with "needs work" is that the genius who proffers this advice is never burdened with saying what said work is. Further, the rating presumes that further work could improve the image. However, for instance, an image might deserve 2/5 if it's great, apart from a badly flawed composition, which no "work" will fix.
I think this image is fine,Ruth, in a style typical of your excellent series of flower images, glowing, yet a bit moody.
I MIGHT like it even more if it had a bit more of the mysterious shade around the flower, as it feels a little crowded or hemmed-in. However, the vibrance of its colour maybe calls for a more "in your face" approach like this.
Hum...

It's fine as is.
