I tried this one horizontally along the fence, but I didn't like the effect. It felt too messy; so stayed with the vertical movement instead. In editing phase, I didn't really like the image in color either; so converted to black and white. I think B/W created a much better feel.
Oops, forgot to post the original vertical motion image in color SOOC.
When bold lines are present in an image I have found that ICM works best when it works together those lines.
With the fence having conflict between both strong vertical and horizontal elements I think this mat not be best suited to ICM.
Just for giggles, I ran the image through the motion filter in PS (set at 0 degrees) just to see how this may have come out with a slower pan, and as you can see the elements continue to work against each other.
I think it's great that you are experimenting and evaluating results, this will most certainly pay off for you.
I agree with you, Alan, about the conflicting vertical and horizontal lines. I had taken several images which absolutely would not work because of what you mentioned, but this one stuck out as a "perchance". It definitely is as far as I would go with lines in this way. By the way, now you got me onto In the Round!
I do feel the B&W version has a certain mystery, almost ghostly feel about it. This works in its own right and somewhat contradicts my initial assessment.
Spooky....
I understand the notion of this not working due to strong vertical and horizontal lines. I have to say that in this case it adds A LOT of visual tension and some confusion. I LIKE IT! The image really made me work while looking at it.
Thanks
Thank you, John! That's what I was thinking. Otherwise it really doesn't work. Hope you are doing well in your part of the world.
