Fire into Smoke - Minimalistic

Just came back from a week in the Steens Wilderness Area and taking astrophotography from the Alvord desert never happened due to the heavy smoke from the wildfires around the Western US.

They are making for great sunsets.

This is really something to look at, Dean. It almost resembles a heated, orange, lidded piece of pottery sitting on a table. I love the banding around the sphere and the gradation of light at the top of the photo. It's well-done!

We're on the east coast getting the smoke from those fires out west via the jet stream. The air has been a little hazy the past few days. The other night, the sun was amazing – orange like your photo, but such a perfect sphere. I don't remember ever seeing it that defined before. I wish I had taken a picture of it.

Super amazing frame.
My perception of crop

I love the coloring on this Dean, the orange is such a perfect hue.

I'm not sure I love the position of the sun in the frame, I can't exactly say why. I do feel that Vijay's crop balances the image better. This is highly subjective of course. Just to give a different perspective I have tried repositioning the subject in the frame, which satisfies my own taste (and can certainly understand if others have a contrary perspective).

Thanks for posting, this is definitely an interesting image.
